Two-time Silver Dollar Speedway sprint car track champion Stephen Allard, a Chico native, reportedly died Monday in Cameron Park where he lived.
Allard, 40, tied Chico Sports Hall of Fame driver Shane Scott for the 1996 track title at Silver Dollar, and won his second championship outright in 2007.
Silver Dollar Speedway director of communications Troy Hennig did not have any facts on Allard's death on Tuesday, but Hennig said Allard had 11 career wins at the Chico speedway.
This past season, Allard raced primarily at Placerville Speedway, where he finished second in the season points race to Auburn's Andy Forsberg.
Allard also competed this year in the California Sprint Car Civil War Series, where he finished sixth in the points standings.
Raised in Chico, Allard's younger brother Jonathan Allard won the 2002 Silver Dollar track sprint car title, and this past year won his third career King of the West Sprint Car Series championship.
Jonathan Allard is currently racing in New Zealand.
