Started day off with working on the computers again.   Evening for dinner Chris took us to a very unique place called The Industrial Revolution.  With life size steel sculptures of the iron workers who built the twin towers across the top of the building and the front front built with steel beams.  Inside the entrance way was a life size steel man sitting on a bench as shown in the picture below. Walking in to the restaurant we saw all types of pictures of how the steel fabric of our country was put together.  There were videos running in view of each table of inventors and mechanical history.       Each week they honored an inventor at the tables with a picture and his bio.  Today was  George Eastman (July 12, 1854 – March 14, 1932) who was an American innovator and entrepreneur who founded the Eastman Kodak Company and invented roll film, helping to bring photography to the mainstream. Then there was a large scale train circling around the rooms while we enjoyed our dinner. The menu had such delicacies as a 5 lb burger with fries at a cost of 38.50 but it would be free if you could eat the entire thing.  No one has done

This is the Lord's day. We spent the afternoon getting reaquainted with the grandkids.  Crystal took me to the pet store to get some catnip for Baby. Chris cooked spaghetti and Italian sausage for dinner.  Mmmm.  Always tastes better when someone else cooks it. After dinner Chris and I worked on upgrading my computer, then Chris's business partner Nate came over to oriented us on their up and running business.  We are always looking to get involved in jobs that we can use to fund our ministry for the next year.  But it is all mind-boggling but these old timers are going to try to comprehend it all.

Spent time getting reacquainted with grandkids.  Chris had to play in his band for a teen birthday party so he was gone the rest of the day.  Our daughter-in-law, Crystal and I prepared dinner and we just had a quiet evening.

After a week in Elwood we are packed up and headed north to Gas City Speedway. After parking we went to the office to register.  They put us on the guest list and we entered the track.  We were treated so warmly by the track office manager, Nona and promoter Tom Brenner.  Nice people who run a great business at the track. It was a cold windy wet night in Gas City.  Threats of rain hung over the speedway but the drivers prepared the cars and were ready.  The rains held off until just before the short intermission.  There was mist in the air.... but it was holding off and actually blowing over.  So the races went on and there were a few mishaps.... cars rolling over in cartwheels.... but thank God no one was hurt.   The evening was really a lot of fun.  Watching the races was great.  We talked with a lot of the drivers and especially enjoyed talking with        86 year old Ralph Liguori.  John Dockery & Dudley enjoyed reminicing with Ralph and just hearing some of the stories.  I wished I could have been around in those day too.  Brian Clauson won the A main.  Dudley was talking with

Started the day off with a cool morning.    We got a good nights sleep.  Breakfast was out of the way and maybe now relax a little..... oh no.. We are going to turn the motorhome around and back the trailer in the yard first and then unhitch it from the motorhome and I get to direct him in.   ( I feel like the flag man at the airport.)  But he is so good at handling the big load and he got it right in with no trouble.  Then he jacked up the trailer and was able to free the ball and pulled the motorhome up and it was free.   After that Dudley decides to munch on his favorite treat..... Wheat thins... Crunchy but something is moving in his mouth.....   ANTS !!! He has a mouth full of ants....   His lip is swelling up inside... they bit him. Then there is a bite on his arm and now his leg.  Ouch!!!   Hey I'm the one who always gets bit.....and swells up allergic.  This isn't funny but what can I say....???  Get the benedryl...   After dinner together, Dudley and John went again to the Gospel sing tonight at the Atlanta Christian Church to hear the group 'Adam's voice'. They again enjoyed the music and came home to te

Aug 6:   Here we are arriving in Indiana and it is a beautiful sunny day.  We decided to stop at a Walmart and replenish our food supply.  So lets take this exit in Huntington, IN.  Whoops where is the Walmart.... temperatures are soaring and we are being directed in circles by the idiot lady on the GPS.  I guess she can't see our extended length of over 65 ft. and we can't make all those sharp left turns.  She just took us around the town in a circle and we ended up back where we started.     After our visit to Walmart she now directed us through back roads and we just passed the first exit for Huntington, IN. again.   ( I wonder where they get their personnel for the GPS....  sounds like they are slightly above plant life ! )   Arrived in Elwood, Indiana about 8 pm and pulled into our friends yard and reunited with our long time friend John Dockery & wife Janis. Cool night here to sleep again.   Aug 7:   Got to sleep in this morning as John and Dudley went to a Gaither's Men's meeting in Alexandria.  There were about 100 men in attendance this morning.  They came home all hyped up about the speaker and th

SAT Aug 4:   Continued....    The guys worked on the race car and the trailer.... dark clouds moved in fast.  Warnings of terrible thunderstorms came on the TV.  Predictions of 1-1/4 Inch hail and strong winds expected.  Gene and Honky Tonk Angel ( His dog ) went into the house but wanted us to come in to be safe but we rode out the storm here in the motorhome.   We got the rain, thunder and lightening.  Several places around the area were losing their power.  We only got heavy rains, lightening & thunder & strong winds.   Was going to try to get back on internet to search out a church for Sunday service but too much lightening.  It was a cool night worked on the trailer getting it ready for travel.  He repacked the wheel bearings and connected all the necessary lights we would need to travel with the 25 ft trailer behind the motorhome. Later in the evening Gene said we were going out to dinner.  He drove us to Toledo to the famous Tony Paco's restaurant that was made famous by 'Klinger' Jamie Farr from the series Mash.   He mentioned it on the shows about his hometown Toledo, Ohio and wanted to go ba

Thursday  Aug 2 :  Big doings up town Pemberville.   Street Fair,  Car Show....  Lots of vintage cars....lots of food and merchants had booths and tables on the sidewalk...and music and a live band... 'The Stan Wayback'.....or was it?  ('The Stand WayBack Band') anyways...Lots of people to talk & witness with.  After a long walk up town, we walked for 3 hours back and forth till it was over.  I enjoyed foot & leg cramps all night..... but as we saw many people in wheelchairs; I give thanks that I can walk and enjoy my occasional cramps at night.  The little bridge we crossed over to walk up town was over a river and well you could count the rocks in the bottom and you could walk across it without the bridge. They really need rain here in northern Ohio.    Friday  Aug 3 :   Dudley and Gene went to the 250 Speedway in Cadiz, OH to participate in the Vintage American Race Cars run.   Gene took one of his cars that he couldn't get to run in Orlando last year.  They worked on it most of the day and got it ready.  He finished the race.  They enjoyed the competition.  Got to visit with John Law

July 28..SATURDAY:  Mercer Speedway... arrived early at the gate.  Pulled aside to repair a cable on the battery terminal.  A nice man pulled up to see if we needed help.  He was driving a backhoe and was in charge of track preparation.  Offered to help Dudley and told us the race had been cancelled early since the approaching storm would hit soon.  He gave Dudley a battery connector and that did the trick.  Battery started right up.      A truck pulled in and it was his long time friend Frank Benic the promotor at Mercer Speedway.  Dudley also knows his son a race equipment dealer and car owner from the Indianapolis area.    Now on to Ohio.......   July 29...SUNDAY:  After our host Gene Steele fixed us breakfast, we drove to Gibsonburg to visit Dudley long time racing friend, Johnny Beaber. We spent time with John, wife Pam, son Tony and family at the Beaberbuilt complex.  Also got the first look at my dirt modified project car which we will be bringing home to Florida.  Ended up the day with Gene cooking steaks on the grill for us.     July 30...MONDAY:  Dudley & Gene worked

RAIN  RAIN........... RAIN....STORM......RAIN......  Most of the day Friday and through the night.     The track was almost ready a few times but the rain came again and the stand areas were flooded...Trucks and haulers started to pull in but 'Rain' came again hard and steady and this time ...............RACE was CANCELLED !!!   We had a great visit with Pastor (Chaplain) Bill Beck and his charming wife Judy.  She is a miracle, as her doctor said with her healing after her serious surgery last year, which developed into complications. (Prayer works.) Enjoyed reminiscing and hearing Dudley and Bill talk about all the drivers from this area, whom Dudley drove with years ago.  Saw the sparkle in their eyes as they remembered Lou Blaney, Dave & Dale... awesome family.  They also remembered Gus Linder and the four generations of the Matus family, Johnny Beaber western Pennsylvania great, Rick Ferkle and many more.   That was an enjoyable 2 hours spent with Bill and Judy.  We continue to pray for their health and follow Bill as he ministers and touches so many lives of racers and fans at these tracks and off.    Sat Morning ...
