Today our friend Gene Steele took us the six mile ride from his home to Johnny Beaber's Beaber Built shop. What a nice reunion it was. First we got to talk with Tony who is now driving the Beaber house car. Then came John and his youngest son and Pam. It was great to catch up and remember all the nights of races gone by. John was a great guy to race with and a good friend as well. Nancy had heard me speak of Johnny Beaber many times and today she got to meet John and his family.
John's Beaber Built shop is going well with lots of repair work going on at the moment. Tony and his family and John and Pam live on the shop premises. It was just a good way to start our visit here in Ohio. We hated to miss everyone at Lernerville and Mercer due to the two nights of rain but today helped make up for the otherwise disappointing weekend.
John was one of the top drivers in the east for many years and is probably best remembered for piloting Jim Zeigler's #66 to countless wins and track titles. It was good, very good to be reunited after so many years.
