Our last day in Ohio found Gene, our host, driving us over to Kear's Speed Shop. Though Shirley was in Knoxville, Micki and Vicki took over 2 hours of their busy Monday morning to make us feel welcome. The visit there and learning of the pride the girls have in their family business and their family history was a great way to start the day.
Micki led us over to Rick Ferkle's home where I had a nice reunion with Rick and got to meet his new driver Christopher Bell. Both are excited about this new partnership and I am sure a lot of features await the Ferkle, Bell combination.
The day before we said goodbye to John and Pam Beaber as we made our last trip to Gibsonburg the home of the Beaberbuilt shop. Tony had come from the back to a 9th place finish the previous night at Lawrenceburg and was still recouperating from the long night.
Then it was time to say goodbye to Gene pull out with our dirt modified project car and head west to Indiana. The week with Gene will long be remembered and he will never know how much we appreciate his friendship. We relived much of the week as we drove west into Indiana.
As we pulled into Pastor John Dockery's yard a new reunion was begun. Nancy and I spent the evening sharing all that had happened in the past year with both families with John and Janis. If the Indiana portion of the trip is as memorable as the Ohio portion, we have a lot to look forward to in the days to come.
