Earlier this week, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced that it released 30,558 criminal aliens in fiscal year 2014. The agency admitted to releasing 36,000 criminal aliens the year before, blaming many of the releases on the budget sequester. ICE blames the recent releases on a 2001 court decision, Zadvydas v. Davis, that prohibits the agency from jailing criminal aliens longer than a certain period of time. ICE said most of the aliens released were citizens of countries that won't repatriate their citizens. What could possibly go wrong with this fiasco?
